Shopping Your Flower Girl: Simplicity is best

Flower GirlFlowers girls range in ages and size, and so do the dresses! Some brides will have the be a replica of their own. Some will have the color of the dress match the . Even others will have a white dress with a touch of color to accent the dress or shoes. One thing to keep in mind when looking at dresses for your flower girl is the fact that you will be dealing with children!

It is not to say you should dash your dream of having a niece, sister, or cousin be a replica of yourself on your big day. You need to keep reminding yourself that, again, you will be dealing with children. Different rules apply when choosing children’s clothing and shoes.

Try not to order the dress too early. Children can have huge growth spurts and may go up a size or two from the time the dress is ordered until the time of the wedding. Try to order the dress as late as possible. Some children have been known to gain 2 inches in 6 months. It may not seem like much, but two inches can bring a dress off the floor!

If the flower girl is old enough to use the bathroom by herself, try to order a dress that she can maneuver on her own. It will make the day much easier for her.

Will your flower girl be wearing a tiara or headpiece? Not a problem, but realize that it will come off after a few hours, at best. Unless you are dealing with a child who is in pageant competitions or who has done some modeling, most headpieces and hairstyles will come down or out before the night is over.

Finally, remember that children tire more easily than adults. Your flower girl may become tired right after the ceremony. Her bedtime might be just as your dinner finished up at your reception!

So, what does this mean?

A few simple steps can alleviate any temper tantrums, or unhappy children on your special day. Take all professional pictures before the reception (when things may unravel for kids). Do not worry if a flower girl becomes disheveled. Let the kids have fun, relax, and enjoy your day.
